Lawrence Crouse
Lawrence Crouse is dedicated to building windsor chairs just like they did 200 years ago. The attention to detail and the time and effort put into each Lawrence Crouse chair is very high. When building a windsor chair from scratch there are four different kinds of wood that are used: hickory, white oak, hard maple and poplar or pine. Hickory wood is used to make the spindles for each chair, it is a very flexible wood and makes for easy manipulation. White Oak is easily bendable when steamed and is another great choice for the spindles of a windsor chair. Hard maple wood is used for turnings on the chairs, it is a very sturdy wood. Poplar and pine wood are used for the seats, this wood is thick and sturdy and yet it is light weight.
Lawrence Crouse windsor chairs are made of solid wood, never plywood or particle board. Everything that is used to make a windsor chair is the same as was used 200 years ago. The Lawrence Crouse windsor chairs are built like works of art, and they will last a lifetime. It is the quality, construction and type of materials that are taken into consideration when building a windsor chair that make it a work of art and a piece of furniture that will last for generations.
